Upholstery Cleaning

At Pilgrim Carpet Cleaning Plus, we care about your furniture! When we leave your home or office, it is our desire to have succeeded in doing the best job possible for you.  This is why Upholstery cleaning first requires an examination of the piece of furniture needing cleaned. We need to determine several things:

  1. Are the fibers natural (cotton or wool), or are they synthetic?  Natural fibers require special attention to several things, including browning problems.
  2. Will the colors bleed?
  3. Will the fabric rip or tear during cleaning because of
    age issues?

These are some of the majors which we are looking for to help us determine the best method to use and the correct chemicals to clean with.  Under normal circumstances, once determining the above factors, we would then:

  1. Dry brush the material with a horsehair brush. This brushing begins removing and loosening the dry soil in the fabric.
  2. After a thorough dry brushing, we then vacuum the piece of furniture with our powerful truck mount.
  3. We then apply a shampoo, and agitate it into the fabric with a special shampoo brush.
  4. Then we use the truck mount system and an upholstery tool to rinse the shampoo out of the fabric. With the truck mount vacuum we are able to remove most of the water used in the cleaning.
  5. We then apply a gentle acid rinse to assist in drying and to protect the piece from browning, and for rebalancing the PH of the fiber.
  6. The furniture then needs drying as quickly as possible. This can be accomplished with a ceiling fan, a box fan, or any air mover to assist the drying process.
  7. A final step is to apply a fabric protector to help protect from future spills, etc. We prefer to use an oil based fabric protector on fabrics versus using a water based as we do on carpets.

*** We do no accept responsibility for problems such dye bleeding or tears due to age. We will discuss the potential for these problems with you in the initial examination of the piece of furniture. We then let you decide if the risk is worth it to you for us to go ahead with the cleaning.
